1898-1985
Born in 1898 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Lynn Sissons (1898-1985) began as a ceramics painter as a teenager. She enrolled in the Winnipeg School of Art in 1913 and studied amongst Canadian art giants like W.J. Phillips and L.L. Fitzgerald. Her first group show was held in Montreal in 1932 and her first solo exhibition was held in Winnipeg in 1943. By 1963, she was honoured with a solo exhibition at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. A year before her death, Sissons’ work was included in an exhibition commemorating the School of Art in Winnipeg, titled “The Winnipeg School of Art: The Early Years” in 1984.
